The assessment, investigation and management of all aspects of coma are the topic of the first part of this module, including sessions on the clinical signs in coma, the neurological causes of ventilatory failure, the management of raised intra-cranial pressure, and neurological problems on a general ITU. There are also sessions on hypoxic-ischaemic brain injury, the metabolic encephalopathies, and vegetative states. The second part is concerned with disorders of sleep, including sessions on narcolepsy and cataplexy and excessive daytime sleepiness.
